Originaire de la petite municipalité de Saint-Boniface, en Mauricie, Luc Gélinas s'est très tôt intéressé au journalisme et au sport. Il a effectué ses premiers pas à la radio et au journal étudiant du Séminaire Sainte-Marie de Shawinigan pour ensuite décrire les matchs des Cataractes à la télévision communautaire. La station radiophonique CKSM de Shawinigan l'a ensuite embauché pour travailler aux sports les week-ends. Après ses études secondaires, Luc est parti pour Jonquière, où il a obtenu un diplôme d'études collégiales en presse écrite. Lors de son passage au Saguenay, il a entre autres été en charge des relations publiques pour l'équipe Midget AAA et annonceur-maison des Saguenéens de Chicoutimi.
En quittant le CEGEP, Luc s'est amené à Montréal en tant que journaliste-réalisateur pour la populaire émission d'affaires publiques "Caméra 88" diffusée à TQS. Quelques mois après l'ouverture de RDS en septembre 89, Luc s'est joint à l'équipe de Sports 30 en tant que journaliste. En 1991 et en 1993, des émissions qu'il a conçues et réalisées se sont retrouvées finalistes aux prix Gémeaux dans la catégorie "Meilleure émission spéciale d'information".
Depuis 1993, Luc suit les activités du Canadien et de la LNH pour Sports 30. Il a notamment eu le privilège de couvrir trois Championnats du monde, la Coupe du monde, cinq finales de la coupe Stanley, neuf matchs des étoiles et les Jeux olympiques de Salt Lake City en 2002. Luc a aussi eu la chance d'être le dernier journaliste à interviewer Wayne Gretzky avant qu'il ne prenne sa retraite officiellement. Cela se passait le 18 avril 1999 à New York lors du deuxième entracte du match entre les Penguins et les Rangers - le dernier match de la Merveille.
Amateur de golf, de hockey, de pêche, de cinéma et de musique, Luc passe la majorité de son temps libre avec sa famille. Depuis l'été 2002, il tient sa propre école de hockey à Saint-Boniface où des vedettes de la LNH viennent partager leurs connaissances avec les enfants.
Luc Gélinas Sports 30/Hockey Journalist Originating in the small municipality of Saint-Boniface, in Mauricie, Luc Gélinas very early was interested in journalism and the sport.
