Natif de Chicoutimi, Québec, Yvon Pedneault a fait ses premiers pas dans le
monde des communications à titre de directeur des pages sportives de
l'hebdomadaire " Progrès-Dimanche ".
En 1967, il fut embauché par le quotidien montréalais " Montréal-Matin ".
En 1970, il devint journaliste attaché à la couverture du Canadien de
Montréal, poste qu'il a occupé jusqu'à son départ pour le quotidien " La
Presse ". Il s'est ensuite joint au Journal de Montréal. Il a cumulé les
fonctions de directeur des pages sportives, columnist, et aussi attaché à la
couverture des activités du Canadien de Montréal. A assuré la couverture de
la Série du siècle en 1972, de neuf coupes Stanley du Canadien, du fameux
match du 31 décembre 1975 entre le Canadien et l'équipe de l'Armée rouge. Il
a couvert toutes les rencontres des séries de la Coupe Canada et de la coupe
du monde.
A partir de 1980, après avoir animé la populaire émission " Les Amateurs de
sports " sur les ondes de CKAC, il a agi comme analyste à " La Soirée du
hockey " jusqu'en 1989 alors qu'il participa au lancement du Réseau des
Sports (RDS) dans le rôle de commentateur et aussi analyste aux matchs de la
Ligue nationale.
Après quelques années à la SRC et à TVA, il est de retour au Réseau des
sports et depuis 1998, il a retrouvé son poste d'analyste des matchs de la
Ligue nationale, formant un duo avec Pierre Houde.
Il a aussi agi comme président de l'Association des chroniqueurs de hockey
de la LNH, chapître de Montréal, il a aussi couvert les Jeux olympiques de
Montréal, Sarajevo, Atlanta, Lillehammer, Sydney et Salt Lake City. Il a
aussi couvert les Championnats du monde de hockey sur glace de 1990 à 1994.
Il a écrit deux livres, un sur Guy Lafleur et un autre sur l'incroyable
saison 1976-77 du Canadien.
Il possède un grade 5 d'entraineur de Hockey-Québec, a été directeur général
du Collège Français de Longueuil, de la Ligue de hockey junior majeur du
Québec.
En 1998, il a vécu les moments les plus importants de sa carrière quand
l'Association des chroniqueurs de hockey de la LNH vota pour son
intronisation au Temple de la Renommée du hockey afin de souligner sa
contribution par ses mots et par ses écrits à l'épanouissement du hockey
